RELEASE DATE
The release date
was originally November 2008, but it was moved to 17th July 2009 (US,
UK) for the following reasons:
a) July is a successful time to release
movies, as many families find it a fun summer activity to do. They already
achieved much success with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and the
Dark Knight, both of which were released in a July, so they decided to try and
do it again.
b) The Writer's Strike meant there was a shortage of films to
be available in 2009. They want to take advantage of the film-drought so people
are more likely to see the film. The Warner Brothers president said "We agreed
the best strategy was to move 'Half-Blood Prince' to July, where it perfectly
fills the gap for a major tentpole release for midsummer."
c) It would mean
there would be too much of a gap between Half-Blood Prince and Deathly
Hallows.
